Achievements


In the summer update of 2010, CipSoft introduced the Achievement System in Tibia, it gave many questions to the players, thrillers, curiosities and many adventures. It brought a different meaning to the game, and for people that likes to compete, this is a big opportunity.

The achievements are extra objectives which you can reach inside the game executing determinate actions or tasks. However, there are achievements that you have to find out for yourself where it came from and how you did it, this turn the game more exciting and with some mysteries. Many players prefer to keep secret when they find out some different achievement, because each achievement gives a quantity of points that are displayed on the page of your character and the amount is acquired according to the degree of difficulty of achievement.

Currently, there are 281 achievements available, which together they reach more than 600 points. Due to frequent updates in game, this number is growing constantly.

All the achievements have a name and a description, which most often gives tips about what you have to do to get them. In the official site is possible to find a partial list of available achievements, there are also 140 secret achievements, whose information is unavailable on the page.

Each achievement that you get can be viewed in your account management page in official site, but, only you can see all your achievements. However, if you have two or more characters, the achievements that you reach with them will be displayed in a single list. It means, at the moment isn’t possible to view separately the achievements each player has.

All your achievements won’t be available for everybody, but if you are the type that likes to display, then you can, optionally, show until 5 achievements in the page of your character.

But there are clear differences between some achievements, turning these more valuable than others, for some cost, of course. The points that achievements add to your count depend of the difficulty to obtain the achievements. The higher the risk, the time spent or the quota made, more points they give. The achievements are divided in four ranges:

Easy tasks, such as hugging a bear, doesn’t require much time or experience of the player, but can be worth 1 to 3 precious points.
Not so easy as the 1st grade, they are a little more complex, all valuing between 4 to 6 points.
Really difficult tasks, consuming much time, expense. All of them are secrets and probably weren’t all of them found out, counting from 7 to 9 points.
All tasks are still unavailable or still didn’t find out and will add 10 points.

As far as we know, currently a character can have a little more than 600 achievement points, and of 140 secret achievements, about 10 weren’t discovered. Would be among them some secret achievement of 4th grade hidden?

The achievements that can be acquired in Tibia are really varied regarding to the procedure to get them. The several conditions of conclusion of the achievements, certainly, let the researches more gratifying and less monotonous and, naturally, the score gained by determinate deed depends of these conditions. After winning a determinate achievement, you receive a central message with the name of achievement and in your account page you can obtain more information about how you got it through a little description with very few tips – in the case of secret achievements, these tips help the players to discover the requirements of the accomplishment.

Simple achievements, as “Chorister”, give easy points - unless you have problems with songs. Other achievements, as “I need a Hug”, “Baby Sitter” and “Let the Sunshine In”, for more domestic people, follow the same line of reasoning: make something different and win an achievement.

Many achievements are directly involved with the conclusion of quests, some aren’t. Choking on Her Venom requires, only, that you kill one The Old Widow. Blood-Red Snapper, the Snapper boss, and Eye of the Deep, the Groam. Then, kill bosses also can be a way. Featured to the bosses of Killing in the Name Of, which exist one achievement for the death of each one.

Others are a little more time consuming. “The Undertaker”, for example, requires you to win some muscles with your shovel, while “Skin-Deep” is for people that like to collect skins of animals that kill, and “Deep Sea Diver”, probably the most time consuming of this grade, which you will waste some - lie! You will waste a long, so long, very long time diving. These achievements get much time of the players, since the quota is huge.

There are achievements of conduct or character yet. How so? Those who define what kind of person you are. For example, NPC Jack lost his memory after he travelled in time in the inversion of Spectulus and you must convince him about who he is. You can tell the truth about his past, winning this way the achievement “Truth be Told”, or lying to win “You don’t know Jack”. In the quest In Service of Yalahar, you can be a follower of brutish Azerus – “Follower of Azerus” - or you can disagree and ignore some orders, acting according the wise Palimuth - “Follower of Palimuth” -, which is almost a Good and Evil.

And we can’t forget the achievements for those that are really lucky. See, for example, the achievement “Clay to Fame”, which you must carve Pretty Clay Statues through Clay Lumps. Sculpt statues is a random event, that is, you have to break some Clay Lumps to carve successfully a statue. “Ice Sculptor” also is an achievement of sculptor, but in this case you must sculpt an Ice Mammoth in anIce Cube. The statistic points out a number around 5000 Ice Cubes broken to Ice Mammoth be made, but while some can do it, with much luck, sculpt with less than 100 attempts, others are extremely unlucky, having more than 1 year of frustration and a lot of ice wasted – Squall Arcalarya wasted around 31000! And aren’t so common these achievements: You can win “Number of the Beast” with little luck in dice, “Gold Digger” hunting some scarab coins in the desert, “Cursed” if you be cursed by a “Claw of the ‘Noxious Spawn”, etc.

Finally, the achievements that are obtained directly performing quests are the most numerous, in all grades, and common between the most valuables. There are achievements for quests of almost all grades: since Rottin Wood and the Married Men Quest – “Merry Adventures” - until hard quests as Vampire Hunter Quest - “Razing!” for the last rank – and Demon Oak Quest – "Herbicide".

"People with sharp canine teeth better beware of you, especially at nighttime, or they might find a stake between their ribs. You're a merciless vampire hunter and have gathered numerous tokens as proof."

This variety caused the rise of a new kind of player: the achievements’ maniacs. The mobilization to the big investigation took many people to realize that teamwork is fundamental. Most players which are searching these secret achievements end up united, mainly through forums. There is a true topic of discussions about achievements in official site, where players discuss theories and disclose results.

Taking as base common achievements, some players are used to have crazy ideas, for example, break Frozen Starlights, sell a Magic Plate Armor in H.L. NPC, throw bodies in water, even without sure if they will discover some achievement or not. But there are strong suspicions that disturb the heart of Tibia researchers. For example, the uncommon conditions of steamboat from Thais, where you can give some Coal to the owner of boat, being necessary, probably between 2500 and 500 Coals to release some achievement.

Another interesting theory is of the player Hero the Creator, from Pacera:

Thinking about missions “Friends and Traders”, even not having all missions, but we will mention 4 of them: The Blessed Stake, The Mermaid Marina, The Sweaty Cyclops and The Travelling Trader.

There is one achievement to bless stakes, another to give 50 honeycombs to Marina NPC, the mermaid, and another to complete the missions of the nomad merchant Rashid. Wouldn’t be logic to think in some achievement related Sweaty Cyclops NPC? Something around Gold Ingots, perhaps?

But also don’t hurt to try things that are little more obvious, as:

-Bring back horses;

-Kill Insectoid Scouts (500 aren’t enough);

-Shoot Snowballs;

-Convert Marlins in Marlin Trophies;

-Break spider eggs/webs (more than 1000)

-Create many items as possible from Shimmer Swimmers;

-Brush up rusty legs

-Use ropes

-Insulting (and be punished by) guards of King or Queen;

-Swim a certain number of squaremeters (sqms);

-Killl Slugs, many slugs;

Regardless of the character’s level, or vocation, you can also do it with a little patience (or with a lot of luck) discover some secret achievement. Gogogo search for !

Despite to be opened to all players, the achievements system, or rather, some achievements, have some rules or conditions which end up harming some players, that can withdraw their mood of search, because they won’t obtain all possible points and consequently, will be at a disadvantage.

A very simple case is achievements with maximum limit level. A feat that can only be done by players between level 8 and 80, for example, can’t be concluded by a level 200. Of course there is all the necessity to let the achievement difficult, placing a limit for the players that judge the feat as a simple “kill monsters and spend potions”, but it continues harming to group of players.

Another polemic achievement is “Devovorga’s Nemesis”, which can be obtained during Rise of Devovorga Event. In this event, you must kill some insane creatures, as Cocoon of Doom, that has peripheral hits powerful (to don’t say instant death), and the own Devovorga, that her melee hits can reach up to 5000 hitpoints! What will do knights in situations like this? Disabled to attack because they are receiving higher damages and using fortification spells (Protector), the chances of a Knight hit more than a Paladin or a Mage are minimal, and if they didn’t die first, of course.

The achievement “Castlemania” was also target of many criticisms, because the main condition is to do the correct choices. This included missions which were already made before achievements be deployed, that is, people that didn’t marked correctly all the places around the castle couldn’t do the achievement, and couldn’t back the previous missions. Players didn’t understand how they did it, and therefore arose rumors about several conditions, as reading vampire’s book, kill XX bosses of the castle, walk in all sqms of castle, etc.

Not only these, but many other achievements are widely discussed, either by the favorable conditions of or not to determinate players, by the score obtained, time etc.. – and CipSoft has heard and attended the players. An example of it is the correction in achievement “Castlemania”. For quite some time, CM Mirade said that would happen an internal meeting in order to eliminate, or at least decrease the injustices pointed out by players in some achievements.

Other cause of the dismay between the players is the fact of achievements didn’t give any exclusive benefit, limited to the Ranking. “I like to have access of all places in game. There could be some new area where only who have from XX achievements points.”, said the player Piotr’Ornowski Diabel, from Harmonia, about the unique function of achievements.

However, since the system was deployed, many players spend hours in front of computer searching as crazy how get precious points, and rise some steps in this Ranking, or perform some unpublished achievement simply to have the only one that discovered, while other players simply ignore the resource and keep the focus in their routine hunts. This difference of opinions express the variety of personalities of the players, and CipSoft has done its role providing entertainment for several tastes.

In the case of achievements’ maniacs, the base reason is to escape the sameness of hunts only to get levels or money. “Make achievements amuse me. Is sickening to me hunt every days…” arguesJhom Lord, from Candia. And, although they didn’t give me any benefit, - until as known - It is still a competition, which certainly must stimulate many players to break the head in search of new achievements. But, when they discover a new achievement, players soon know the spoil, which is used to be largely released: “I always visit the forum, searching for clues of achievements, checking failed attempts, and I release mine too. Together we have more chances to discover new achievements”, says Joselito of Candia, from Magera. This type of conduct is common in forums where players regroup themselves to search solutions towards a common good sense. However, not all would surrender the gold so easily. At least is what Lord Jhom still thinks when said: “If I discovered some achievement, it would be only mine!” Thinking logically, hold one secret achievement only yours means advantage points, soon, your placing can rise considerably.

And for those which don’t care for achievement points, remain to them to continue their hunts in peace,, one time that, probably, the fields will be emptier because players will be testing theories. The main reason, of course, for this opinion manifest in a considerable portion of players is the fact that achievements don’t bring real benefits to the character or help them to unveil some Tibia mystery. But there are also those which willing to search for themselves, and now have reasons a little more expressive, as players “Esfirra” from Libera, that says: “Indeed, I think I spend the first six achievement months at forums and game, but what I thought never worked, and when I tried to confirm if a theory of another player was right, I wasted much, this when I didn’t die exploring a place where I didn’t use to go”. Maybe a lot of failures have scratched the reputation of achievements for some players.

Other players still value the achievements in other style: the roleplay. “For those which play Tibia today for fun isn’t waste time, is one of the alternatives to have fun”, said Samyna Xedara, from Menera. The periodic introductions of new achievements stimulate the players of old practices to search and solve mysteries, although they aren’t so exciting as quests that have a great backstory, and even if the spoil is widely released, the next update will bring new achievements and more work will be received to the tireless hunters. An interesting point of view.

In this Winter Update (December 14th), beyond the addition of new achievements – “Bane of the Hive”, “Dog Sitter”, “Manic”, etc -, there are some modifications, to quote: the achievement “Notorious worldsaver” was removed due a bug which allowed the players to acquire it without effort, originally obtained during the Rise of Devovorga Event; the 43 achievements introduced, add about 90-100 points; was also introduced a new resource, as mini World Changes, sudden events and not periodic that also can be requirement to some of these new achievements.
